I can imagine that. Really could not pay for it either. In some YouTube comments they said you just have to disable the BT option but you mentioned above that it is no guarantee to not get sued. And have the feeling there is no official member of the staff reading all the posts here. No real answers.

I had the BT function off. There are latest BT technology using UDP port higher than 2000. That's the risk. I switched all off but the issue is the tool is not build for that.

This requires dedicated dev efforts on Deeper's side in order to prevent all potential fraud through BT (like) downloads.
A tool that proves that it wasn't you (or your household) who was engaged in such illegal downloads/sharing is not suffice. In fact in many countries you'd still be held responsible.
I hope for Deeper to publicly respond to this, And as much as I'd like to stake DPR, I will have to refrain from sharing bandwidth for the time being. It's not worth the legal hassle (let alone the costs involved).

I know it does not help that much , especially when you already got caught but at least they have a sharing log now that came with the latest firmware. Did not dare to try it out though.

Why is it FUD? Every YouTube video about deeper connect states that it is a problem. The difference is that in some country you get away penalty free and in some you do not. If check my IP via whatismyip nothing is obscured. At least in Germany (I wish I could leave this country) you can get in serious trouble. There are logs now but seriously: does the passive income outweigh the hassle with lawyers and the costs. Even if you can successfully prove now that you are not the culprit, your lawyer does probably not work for free. I am frustrated myself but I think its just noch worth the risk to mine with my nano.

CptHook Yes that's what I am worried about too. I think in the US it's easier but if you are not in the US then it's a lot of hassle. I am still waiting for my miner.
Is it possible to get a screenshot of the logs? Want to see what is logged and show my lawyer friend to ask if it's good enough to prove I didn't do it etc.

ofaclan-com I have sharing deactivated . So my logging page is just blank. Interested myself if the logs would help though.

ah, it is never enough having log. Very simple in Germany: your IP and you are responsible for any misuse. Hence you have to pay and manage and then you can/have sue deeper. But how you can ensure you haven't done it? The theory is: you did it by purpose hence now you need to ensure that your IP is properly managed. With the log you can maybe sue deeper in US.

apapahl Ah okay. interesting. I thought you could deflect the charge by "proving" it was not you. Well I really hate this country. Thats the same reason I guess you have free WiFi everywhere in other countries, here everyone is afraid to grant guest access because of the ruling.

A follow up question then would be. What does it cost to successfully defend yourself in court. Is it just a letter by your laywer? Can you get any fees back from the opposing party because they charged you unlawfully?

It depends like always. You have 3 main topics: what kind of movie (a new blockbuster is more expensive than a useless xxx movie). Who is you counterpart. Some of the lawyers are just trying hard but avoiding going to court. And where you are located. Here in Bavaria the courts are more on the side of the prosecutor, in Berlin etc more on the accused. So on average 2000€

apapahl So it is a simple calculation. 2000€ on average, I read something about 10k$ / year (approx. 8,5k €) but ONLY with the miner edition, with nano and mini I guess far below that. Bottom line: unusable in Germany. Well, no one else to blame but myself. Fell for the hype. Now I hope I have at least a average hardware firewall/ vpn for 250$. Not sure about that yet though.

I am living in Europe hence I am following closely the subject of court cases for bandwidth sharing.
Last week there was an interview with Erik Ma, the big boss, which assured, that the problem with blocking bittorrents to use your bandwidth was solved and it does not happen anymore.

Can anyone confirm, that torrent blocking works the way it supposes to after the latest firmware update??

If the issue is still there I am not plugging in my mini yet... 🙂 thank you

To be honest. I cannot blame Deeper anymore for not providing security. What was I expecting - a miracle? I am pretty sure its the same as usual. The bad guys try to outsmart the devs of security mechanisms and vice versa. I fear it wont be 100% secure because it is in the nature of the beast. You are sharing your internet connection so I guess there will always be a risk.

CptHook is right- It will be always a battle between the two parties the security and the hacker. Sharing means risk. I will not share anymore, make no sense. Still 6 open cases on court.
